Hello
My name is Bert and I am a Dutch artist/musician. I illustrate and paint under the nickname BlueHipster(*). I have a gallery/atelier in Utrecht.
Keywords in my work are feelgood, colourful, retro, cartoonesque, cocktail, music, travel and mid-century commercial art.
I started as a freelance illustrator but after a lot of enthusiastic feedback and several requests I started to transform my artwork to canvas. I paint mainly on an unusual panorama-wide canvas (150x60 cm or 200x80 cm).

Illustrations
I make illustrations for magazines, websites, record cover art, posters and print artwork. Have a look at my illustrations portfolio. I deliver my final artwork in any size/resolution/format and printer-ready. If you like my style: feel free to contact me about my illustration/artwork. Prices depend on size and complexity.

Paintings
The acrylic paintings are great for a big wall in your living-room, bedroom, office or restaurant. I always paint the sides of the canvas too, so you don’t need an expensive frame: it is ready for use. Have a look at my paintings portfolio. Transport/Shipping in The Netherlands is no problem: you can see/buy/go in my gallery/atelier in Utrecht. I have a small van for the transport of big paintings. Contact me for other transport/shipping options outside my country.

Paintings in commison
Besides free work I make paintings in commission.
This is how it works (just an example):
Step 1
- You tell me you want a painting on a 160x80cm canvas size. The background must be something like Tuscany hills, in the foreground you like an Italian woman on a 50’s Vespa scooter, an Italian macho-man, a Fiat 500 car and maybe even more.
Step 2 - First I make a sketch/concept with all (or most of) your wishes included, for you to judge. If you don’t like some aspects of the drawing, I can change it.
Step 3 - When the (final) sketch is approved I start painting. You make an advance payment (20%). It usually takes 1-2 weeks to finish the painting.
Step 4 - You come to my gallery/atelier to collect the painting. If you cannot collect it: I have a small van for delivering

Prices start at €600 (depending on size and complexity).
I accept PayPal, Ideal (and ordinary cash....)

(*) In 1957 Norman Mailer published his controversial essay "The White Negro," in which he introduced his conception of the hipster, the rebel who chooses to live outside of society rather than to suffocate within it. Mailer describes hipster’s as individuals, “with a middle-class background (who) attempt to put down their whiteness and adopt what they believe is the carefree, spontaneous, cool life style of Negro hipsters: their manner of speaking and language, their use of milder narcotics, their appreciation of jazz and the blues, and their supposed concern with the good orgasm.”
(Well, I surely feel a hipster. I must say I can identify at least partly with that: first, it’s true that I am an individual. And I keep on working for the other qualities ....). And finally: I like the BlueNote covert art
