Max Woiski successen
Max Woiski sr (1911 - 1981) was born in Suriname. In the 1930s
he started playing popular music in Amsterdam. In his own club
La Cubana in the Leidsestraat he performs under the name José
Baretto and plays mainly Latin music. In the 1950s he changes
to music from Suriname. In his orchestra were Steve Boston (percussion)
and Johnny de Miranda (congas/drums/piano/vocals). His biggest
hit was "B.B. met R" (Black Beans with Rice).
In the 1960s he moves to Majorca, where he buys a nightclub. Here
he plays many years with his orchestra. When he suffers from health
problems he moves to the small town of Porto de Andraitx. He dies
in 1981. His son Max Woiski jr. also had a lot of hit records
in The Netherlands.
