The Invaders Steelband - Distant Shores
 |
 |
|
Covertext: The music of Latin American countries alsways has
had a strong appeal for Europeans, as it radiates the exotic moods
of the tropics. Be it gay, romantic or sad, this music is always
sincere and full of temperament, taking us to the sandy beaches
of a far-off paradise, populated by lovely, dark-eyed girls whose
main occupation in life seems to be song and dance.
This is even more so with the people around the Carribean where
too expensive musical instruments are successfully substituted
by those on hand: maracas, congas and oil drums.
By tuning various sizes of these oil drums and playing with rubber-coated
little sticks a very specific sound is obtained which has become
the musical trademark of Trinidad first, later spreading to the
whole Carribean area.
The Invaders Steelband has brought its music, its gaiety and temperament
to Europe, where there are appearing in concert for more than
a year now. Their performances combine their very own sound with
another typical art-form of their homeland: the limbodance.
Their first album may feature Latin American evergreens as well
as their native music, still in every song the typical steel-sound
is clearly emerging.
Let yourself be taken to the distant shores of your dreams by
the magical music of ....
